What is a hydrosol and what is a floral water?

This question comes up every time I am out at a farmers’ market, craft fair or pop-up

Hydrosols are made from a time-consuming process that involves distilling plant materials to create a gentle and versatile water-based product, known as the true water of the plant.

How does Hamptons Aromatherapy make its signature hydrosols?

Hamptons Aromatherapy hydrosols are created by cooking locally-sourced plant material in our hand-made copper alembic urn from Portugal. Picked at their peak freshness, Lavender, Rose, Lemon Verbena, Geranium, Seaweed, and Mint are just a few of the plants we cook in our urn. The plant is placed in the neck of the urn and the base is filled with distilled water. It is then cooked at a high temperature for several hours. When the water boils the active plant chemicals are released and captured in the steam that is carried thru the urn into a cold water component turning the steam to water. The water collected is a pure distilled floral water with a scent that is powerful and intoxicating.

This pure distilled floral water is our hydrosol.

We do not need or use chemicals or additives in our products.

We love creating hydrosols for that perfect mid-day boost, refreshing our faces, neck and chest.

Each plant we cook holds a different property and therapeutic advantage…

How Does Floral Water Compare to Hydrosol?

Floral water is simply water with added essential oils. Sometimes a synthetic fragrance is added to create a “floral water.” Therefore they can be a less costly way to have a water fragrance, but can refreshing never-the-less. So, in comparison, hydrosols may cost a bit more but the time-consuming process ensures you get the beneficial properties of the plant’s natural active chemicals – it is the plant’s pure essence.

The Importance of Self Care

Whatever you choose for your bag, either one is a step in self care.  Self care a concept we discuss almost daily on Instagram.  If we do not take care of ourselves, how can we take care of others or situations? Our physical and mental health is the core of our being. Both are so intertwined and as we age can create some bumps and blocks that we must overcome. That’s for another blog. For now, spritz your face our hydrosols the next time you need a boost.

Try our Lavender, Rose and Seaweed Mint hydrosols today!  We carry three convenient sizes for on the go spritzing or total indulgence.
